DAY 1

Begin with grace

Read Ephesians 2:8–10.

What is the relationship between grace and good works? Write one sentence about why obedience cannot earn salvation. Thank God for His grace before planning any change.

DAY 2

Invite examination

Read Psalm 139:23–24.

What are you willing for God to bring into view? Sit quietly, pray the passage, and name one area you have avoided considering honestly.

DAY 3

Listen before answering

Read James 1:19–21.

In which conversation do you normally become defensive? Practice a deliberate pause and ask one clarifying question before responding today.

DAY 4

Choose one response

Read James 1:22–25.

What have you heard but not practiced? Write a small, observable action and give it a definite place in today’s schedule.

DAY 5

Receive correction

Read Proverbs 12:1 and 15:31–33.

Ask a trustworthy person about one behavior you want to examine. Listen without explaining immediately. Pray about what you heard before deciding how to respond.

DAY 6

Recall the gospel

Read 1 Corinthians 15:1–8.

Write a plain-language account of the message Paul recalls. Mark anything you do not understand and arrange to discuss it with a mature Christian.

DAY 7

Observe carefully

Read Mark 2:1–12.

List the people, actions, and questions in the passage. Delay application until you have described what actually happens.

DAY 8

Consider Jesus

Read Mark 2:1–12 again.

What does the episode reveal about His authority? Write your answer with references to the details in the passage rather than general impressions.

DAY 9

Respond thoughtfully

Read Mark 2:1–12 once more.

Identify an appropriate response of trust or obedience. Explain why your response fits the passage and discuss it with someone trustworthy.

DAY 10

Examine a teaching

Read Acts 17:10–12.

Choose one teaching you have recently heard. Read the biblical passage used to support it, including the surrounding material. Write what is clear and what needs further study.

DAY 11

Name the cost

Read Luke 14:25–33.

Which attachment makes obedience difficult? Name it honestly in prayer. Seek wise counsel about a specific decision rather than making a sweeping emotional promise.

DAY 12

Trust without bargaining

Read Daniel 3:13–18.

What preferred outcome have you made a condition of obedience? Ask God for faithfulness even where you cannot control the result.

DAY 13

Prepare truthful words

Read Ephesians 4:25.

Write a short response to a situation in which you feel pressure to misrepresent the truth. Rehearse saying it clearly without insult or exaggeration.

DAY 14

Examine the criticism

Read 1 Peter 2:19–23.

Is a criticism you have received directed at faithful conduct or at a fault you need to address? Ask a wise person to help you distinguish them.

DAY 15

Seek counsel

Read Proverbs 15:22.

Bring one consequential decision to someone equipped to help. Describe the facts accurately, including details that make your own position less flattering.

DAY 16

Explain your hope

Read 1 Peter 3:13–17.

Write a brief account of your hope in Christ. Remove any sentence whose main purpose is to belittle another person.

DAY 17

Learn the story

Read James 1:19 and Proverbs 18:13.

Ask someone a sincere question about an experience or concern. Listen to the complete answer and summarize it before adding your view.

DAY 18

Correct your words

Read Ephesians 4:29–32.

Recall a misleading or unnecessarily harsh statement you made. If appropriate, correct it with the people who heard it. Keep the correction direct.

DAY 19

Leave the quarrel

Read 2 Timothy 2:23–26.

Identify one exchange that has become unproductive. Choose a respectful pause or withdrawal, while remaining open to a future honest conversation.

DAY 20

Pray for the difficult person

Read Matthew 5:43–48.

Pray for the good of someone you find hard to love. Choose a responsible act of kindness if appropriate; maintain necessary safety boundaries.

DAY 21

Bring kindness home

Read Colossians 3:12–17.

Ask what someone close to you experiences when you are tired. Choose one concrete way to show patience today.

DAY 22

Keep a promise

Read Matthew 5:33–37.

Review a commitment you have made. Fulfill it, or communicate honestly and promptly if you cannot. Do not make the other person chase an answer.

DAY 23

Share the work

Read Galatians 6:2.

Identify a burden someone near you is carrying. Ask what help would be useful, then complete an agreed task without taking control of their situation.

DAY 24

Make room for a question

Read Deuteronomy 6:4–9.

Invite a conversation about faith in an appropriate relationship. Let the other person ask something they truly wonder about. Admit what you do not know.

DAY 25

Respect your limits

Read Romans 12:18.

Separate what is your responsibility from what requires another person’s cooperation. Take your responsible step and stop trying to force the response.

DAY 26

Tell the truth to God

Read 1 John 1:5–10.

Confess one specific wrong without an excuse. Receive the passage’s promise with gratitude and consider what practical response is needed.

DAY 27

Examine the repair

Read Luke 19:1–10.

Who was affected by your conduct? Write a possible repair. Seek guidance if contacting the person would cross a boundary or create further harm.

DAY 28

Accept patient restoration

Read John 21:15–19.

Consider the seriousness and hope of Peter’s conversation with Jesus. Name one faithful responsibility you can carry today without demanding a public role.

DAY 29

Ask for support

Read Galatians 6:1–5.

Identify a pattern that is difficult to change alone. Contact an appropriate person for pastoral, practical, or professional support. Be clear about the help you need.

DAY 30

Change the arrangement

Read Romans 13:11–14.

Notice an avoidable condition that makes a recurring temptation easier. Make one practical adjustment and tell your accountability partner what you changed.

DAY 31

Remain in Christ

Read John 15:1–11.

Set a workable time and place for prayer and Scripture. Begin today with the passage itself, asking how it describes dependence and fruitfulness.

DAY 32

Encourage someone

Read Hebrews 10:23–25.

Contact a fellow believer with a specific word of encouragement. Ask how you can pray for them rather than assuming you know their need.

DAY 33

Practice rest

Read Mark 6:30–32.

Choose a modest period of restorative rest suited to your responsibilities. Put aside one avoidable demand and receive your human limits without shame.

DAY 34

Keep doing good

Read Galatians 6:6–10.

Identify a worthwhile responsibility whose results are slow. Complete today’s part without requiring immediate evidence that it has made a difference.

DAY 35

Review the rhythm

Read Psalm 90:12.

Look at the past week. What helped you attend to God and love people? Keep one useful practice and adjust one that was unrealistic.

DAY 36

Notice one person

Read Matthew 9:35–38.

Pray with attention to the people around you. Identify someone you can serve respectfully, beginning with their actual need rather than your preferred project.

DAY 37

Offer an invitation

Read Matthew 28:16–20.

Ask someone whether they would welcome a short conversation or shared Bible reading. Give them room to decline without pressure or loss of kindness.

DAY 38

Learn together

Read Acts 18:24–28.

If an invitation has been accepted, prepare a passage to read together. If not, meet with a mature believer and ask how you can grow in teachability and service.

DAY 39

Release the outcome

Read 1 Corinthians 3:5–9.

Distinguish your responsibility from God’s work. Name one outcome you have been trying to control and pray about serving faithfully without possession.

DAY 40

Continue deliberately

Read Philippians 2:12–13.

Review these days with a trustworthy person. Choose two practices to continue, one responsibility to address, and a date for another conversation. Thank God for the help you have received.

Keep going with grace.

What if I miss a day?

Return to the next unfinished day. There is no deadline or streak to protect. Take the time you need to read, reflect, and respond.

Can I do this with a group?

Yes. The complete book includes an eight-week group study. Agree on a reading pace and use the book’s questions to guide discussion.
